I'm WET !!!! It has rained all day and dodging raindrops didn't save me from looking like a drowned rat this morning, I am SO looking forward to Summer !! Everything is wet, everything smells wet, Adolf the Rhode Island rooster struts his stuff through the muddy puddles, his ladies dripping feathers and saturated wattles look miserable as they crowd any patch of shelter, trying to avoid the drips from the gutter above. The young raspberry canes that glowed vibrant green in the sunshine now droop their leaves heavy with rain drops to the ground and tree blossom petals lie saturated in the grass. Charm loves the rain, rain means mud and there is nothing that Mr. Attitude likes better than a really muddy hole that he can wallow in. Bran spends no time worrying about getting wet or getting dirty, he hurtles back and forth between the cow pen and the sheep pen leaving a muddy path and muddy paw prints in his wake. The lambs are having a ball, rain means puddles and puddle jumping just adds an extra dimension to causing chaos. The poor long suffering ewes, udders heavy with milk try to avoid the pranksters as they leap and splash, run and splash some more. Moms back makes a handy trampoline and jumping in and through the feeder into a muddy puddle from moms back just adds a whole new dimension of fun for the carefree bratpack.

We are a little concerned for Gertie and Gustav, the visiting Canadian Geese have become very territorial and appear to have established a clearly defined "no go area".....as in anywhere on the ranch ! We frequently hear Gerties distinctive call as she flies around the barn but the visiting gander almost always prevents them from settling in the pasture or on the pond and sadly poor Gertie has to fly on. The visitor has started to get aggressive with us too, we like to think of ourselves as conservationists, we like to do our part to encourage nature...but if Mr Gander continues to treat us as unwelcome guests in our own pasture, we may have to consider serving him an eviction order !

We have a new farm resident. We would like to welcome Midnight and his significant person, Jordan. Jordan has been a great friend of the farm for many years and we look forward to sharing more special moments with her and Midnight. Midnight is a black Morgan and he does have some medical issues but I'm sure that he will thrive here and we will all learn from another new horse personality and his particular condition.

Well, the rain seems to have stopped, momentarily I'm sure but maybe it will just give us enough time to get the animals back in from the pasture before it starts again. Looking on the positive side...I guess this means we wont have a water shortage this year !!! Take care, keep safe, M
