Maureen if I must! Awww, what about for the sake of humor! We did have a good laugh, but her hair was dry and not frizzy. And the dogs were a curiosity as well. Daisy and Sirloin were not sure what to think of Bran's new, bright raspberry rain coat. Bran just looked away in indignation. It was fun to watch the three. Trying a capture all the expressions on them was not easy. Today is sunny and dry so everyone has a reprieve from the elements and embarrassing attire. Me.. I just stay inside and do my chores.

First, on a good note. Lady is definitely getting better. She is still wearing the aluminum plate on her right foot to help protect her sole, but its a good thing she has it. Last week the abscess that had been festering finally was ruptured and she spent the week soaking the foot twice a day and wearing a poultice. The plate made it real easy to keep the poultice in place. She is walking 100% better and really happy in herself. SO ARE WE!! Months of rehab left yet, but the prognosis looks brighter. No trips around the jump course, but hopefully some leisurely walks through the woods and her arthritis can be kept under control.
Autumn?? Weather forecast is rain - sun - rain... And poor Bran and Luke have new RAIN COATS... Bran looked soooo happy when we tried it on him. Maybe he won't have to spend so much time in the garage drying off after a day at the barn. Luke might be a little more happy as well. When its raining and cool he tries to stay hidden in the hay stack buried under the fallen hay keeping warm and dry. His idea of a day at the barn is chase the sheep out to the pasture then find a nice hay pile to sleep in until lunch time! Just not a farm dog yet. Oh well, he is happy with his life. Autumn also brings harvest time and a bubbling wine cellar. Tasted some of the grape harvest spoils yesterday. Not quite to rocket fuel stage yet, but a very nice blend of grapes and still bubbling. Also rendered 13 pints of lard. First time we ever tried making our own and its a do-over. Freezer is full now. Should keep the tummy full and warm for another year. Well time to go and see what new adventure is awaiting us today. Take care, stay safe and I will try to post a little more frequent now that Maureen is almost back to her normal self and the pneumonia is gone. G. It's soooo nice to have the boss home again! Maureen arrived late Tuesday evening after a very miserable flight home. It seems England decided to bestow a full blown head/chest cold on her to endure (and infect everyone on the plane!) on the way home and bring to me... Welcome home sweetie!
On the flip side, harvest is in full swing. Apples galore, grapes, pears and more. bright side of it all, with the rains we have had we no longer have to irrigate. Switch from one chore to the next. Now it's get all the fields ready for the winter rains. Make sure fences are in order and firewood in the barn to keep dry. Thanks Quatra, Grace and Justin for all the help while Maureen was away. You all were a big help and most everything kept running smoothly. Of course, not to Boss's standards, but Boss was well pleased with the state of the ranch in general. Always nice to visit with you. Take care all and will be back to normal now the Boss is back. Just need to get rid of her cold and get strength back. Stay safe and have a great day. G |
