We remember and try to move on....

It’s 9/11, ten years on and it’s one of those moments in time which will forever be with me. A moment in time which for me and for millions in the USA and around the world will forever be frozen in their clarity. We will, as usual be flying our flags proudly down at the ranch and I’m sure that during the course of the day we will remember.

We had queries relating to some of the photographs Greg posted yesterday and hopefully I will be able to assure readers that my #1 ranch hand, ( Greg) was not torturing little Danielle, neither was he attempting to shove a lamb chop through a gritted set of little goat teeth. Little Danielle, gravely injured when she fell out of a willow tree whilst garnering every green morsel she could pack into her overstuffed mouth is not doing well. Like little ants or bees returning to the nest or hive to nurture the queen, Greg Quatre and little Ursula scurry back and forth with morsels to tempt the starving doeling to eat. Rose leaves, hazelnut leaves, grape, willow,…if it was green and not on the “not for goats” list her little worker ants returned with it and left to find more, over and over again.Greg defrosted some precious goat milk and, since her ladyship firstly lapped it up enthusiastically, it wasn’t long before her imperious head turned away and the milk was rejected as had so many tasty morsels before. Undaunted, Greg unearthed a plastic coke bottle and teat, without giving her a chance to consider rejection, Danielle had the teat in her mouth and an hourly regime of bottle feeding has begun in an attempt to keep the broken and depressed doeling alive.

Yesterday Ursula, unsurprisingly managed to complete more cleaning than the entire team could achieve in a week. The barn kitchen window is cleaner than it has been since the day it was bought and at this rate each and every broom will need replacing as all the bristles will be worn out ! If we have a problem, it wont be persuading her to work…our problem will be trying to get her to stop!!! Thank you Ursula, but slow down, we can’t keep up with you !

Quatre as always, confident and dependable just quietly completes the chore list as and when a poo pile presents itself. Yesterday she was at the “heavy end” when branches were trimmed, as always we were so glad to have her with us here at the ranch.

So, with memories of 9/11 on the television and etched into our brains, we will begin another day in our own little sanctuary, our own little Heaven.

Take care, keep safe and cool M
