While I was otherwise employed, Greg and our two hardworking WWOOFers, Quatre and Ursula got to work on routine chores in anticipation of the arrival of Wayne the artificial Insemination Man. Quatre was due to leave yesterday morning but typically ( for Quatre) when there is a chance to learn and get involved down and dirty, Quatre wont be far away…. In fact Quatre will be somewhere in the middle of it !!!
Mr. Wayne arrived with his unassuming little mobile bull. Baby cows begin their lives in straws of semen which whiz around from farm to farm in a round thermos jug, frozen in liquid nitrogen. Our selected bull, Magee is on Mr. Wayne’s recommendation list, usually collected in said straws and given a number our cows become moms with no loving hearts and flowers, no romance, just a pat on the butt and thanks for her co operation. In 9 months Daisy May could be a mom to a little Dexter calf. Fingers toes and everything else crossed !!!
Just as we were leaving for lunch an SUV glided into the barnyard. No one expected, we cautiously approached the vehicle. We were delighted to see friends we had made and last seen before we were married. A happy couple of hours recalling friends long lost and memories shared. A couple, (few) glasses of wine and a tot of Jamieson Whisky sitting looking out over the peaceful resting farm we recalled happy memories of times and colleagues far away in England. Thank you Butch and Dianna, it was wonderful to see you, safe trip back to Texas!
Well, it’s that time again, better go and get ready, it looks grey and dreary out there..but it’s not raining,..yet. Take care, have a great day, keep safe,
