The A team are in charge today

I know it was lack of something that caused a delay in the building of Rome…or somewhere. …It was a stuck nail that brought an enthusiastic burst of unsupervised fence building to a screeching halt. A stuck nail refused to be hammered in or pulled out…it happens, and always feels so much worse when Greg extricates it effortlessly with vice grips! DOH. ( that’s one of the reasons we keep him around !!)  I had gone off for a road trip with Greg to pick up horse shoes and confidently left the A team in charge of 2 extremely heavily pregnant and almost due to drop cows, a Daisy Mae heifer who is desperate for a man and wants the whole world to know and poor little Danielle our Doeling with an owie that we haven’t been able to find. We think that Danielle, who loves to climb trees may well have come out of the tree faster than she went up it. She is looking particularly miserable, there is something very pathetic about a goat who is feeling unwell. Currently she is taking her dinner in bed and tasty little tit bits are being delivered to her boudoir by a very concerned and attentive group of woofer interns. Greg is ensuring that her medication doesn’t find its way onto the barn floor and we are never short of updates on her condition.

Last evening, much to Charms disgust, the saddles and bridles reappeared and this time all three horses, Lady Charm and Roman took to the trail. It was the first time Lady had had the two boys all to herself and the first time the two boys had had to share the attention with another testosterone charged gelding. First sign that Roman was not prepared to share the girl was a very swishy black tail and ears flat back on his head. A group photo…with Charm, I don’t think so!!! A little bit of jostling for prime position…next to Lady’s tail…or anywhere in the hormonal zone but eventually some kind of order was established. Despite a car that was apparently unaware or didn’t care that horses were here before cars and a riding lawn mower spluttered into life as we passed, our new riders and their frisky mounts all enjoyed the ride and returned to the barn happily smiling ..as usual. An impromptu horse riding “lesson” was held in the arena as the sun began to set. Derek and Quatre did a great job of restraining two horses who clearly don’t like each other much and hate work even more. Holly under Greg’s watchful eyes took Lady out onto the farm road and took Lady into a brisk trot…our feeling is that young Holly is looking for a bit more action..soon Holly, soon. Well done A team we are so glad you are here!
Our young chickens are beginning to lay and perfect, tiny eggs are being discovered in the nest boxes, the new feathered moms are more than a little reluctant to part with them and I can see that we are going to be having some harsh words in the hen house !
Thanks all the moms and Mum J for your lovely comments, we really appreciate your input. Timed out again, take care, keep safe, M

Can't wait to see the baby calves! And would like to see more of the baby sheep/lambs too! Taylor and Madison LOVE to see pics of Lesley & Derek!. I am glad there is still plenty to do for an injured body, but thankful that the soul is still very intact! I think a lot of learning happens on your farm, more than just how to shovel you-know-what! Keep cool everyone!
