Fans of Lamb Chop who checked in to admire his headwear will have been disappointed yesterday. With Derek’s “other half” having a few days away in Tacoma with some of her girlfriends, Derek was noticeably alone. Derek and Lesley are like Greg and I, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy…..Lamb Chop and Daisy May…where one goes, the other is rarely far away. Derek scooped the poop, swept the cobwebs and filled the water buckets like someone possessed but Derek was alone and his eveready smile was lacking some of its lustre…hurry back Leslie! Hol-ley the calf is stopping traffic on the farm road, always prepared to surrender herself for an invigorating back scratch or neck rub that little girl could make the hardest heart melt !! Yesterday Derek took the little cow for a walk on the leash.Previously, Hol-ley the little Dexter calf has resisted the restraint of the leash but Derek the determined was as confident as she was stubbornly resistant and off for a little walk they went. There was Derek, there was little Hol-ley and not far behind were the three Amigos! Clearly the unlikely trio are both intrigued and cautious about the new arrival that is catching all the attention. Lamb Chop, Daisy May and smelly buck Macho followed, step by step until little Hol-ley turned her little head and fluttered those huge long eyelashes. The Amigos scattered around the pasture, Derek and his charge were alone but not for long. Curiosity beat the caution and the scene was repeated until Hol-ley was returned to her pasture to continue attracting her admiring fan club on the road.
Nara is becoming quite the budding horse woman and is clearly forming a strong bond with Charm (arab / quarter horse) aka beauty with attitude. It is amazing to think that this young lady found our little farm from the other side of the world and has become a part of our farm family. Azam came down to the ranch for early morning chores, hopefully this indicates that his fingers are healing and I can continue with my English / Arab lessons!
Well, time is up, the clock has beaten me and it is time to get down to the barn. So far no sleepy heads have appeared from the Woofer apartment downstairs…looks like everyone is taking a lie in.
Take care, keep safe, M
