Schedule, what schedule???

Whatever priority headlined the hypothetical farm schedule (we do try brother Tony!!) yesterday got railroaded into farm history. With Jaspers help the “roost”, our 4 star chicken house with a view got predator proofed...we hope. Looking extremely technical Greg and Jasper wandered around with tape measures, spirit levels and determination. When our fast food predator returns for supper last night it was our intention that from his watch point overlooking the roost he would recognise that, unless he was pretty adept at using a trampoline he would quickly discover that the chickens were off the menu. So there we were in the sunshine with an enormous fishing net attempting to stretch an irregular shaped net over an equally irregular shaped enclosure..just to make things even more interesting, said net had rips and holes in it which served the purpose of adding an exasperating element to the exercise, it wouldn’t match up! Greg trained friend Jourdan, who, (unluckily for her ) arrived just at the right moment for us, the wrong moment for her. Roll the excess around the outside UPWARDS. When Jourdan noticed ( and bravely pointed out!) that her trainer was in fact rolling DOWNWARDS, ummm. Greg adapted his requirements to “whichever way you roll is ok”. Sadly Jasper wasn’t privy to the new instruction and a there was very nearly a domestic on Jaspers side of the pen. I wasn’t rolling to spec and Jasper was accepting no deviation on Gregs instructions…NOW I’VE GOT 2 BOSSES!!! Quick confirmation of change of plan which I have to say Jasper was reluctant to accept and we were back in the same team. The job was completed as the clouds arrived and the rain began to fall. It was a fun day, Jasper has proved he can be in our team and our visiting predator will hopefully find another farm to frequent.

The first strawberry crop was picked ( and eaten) yesterday, hopefully we beat the spotted winged drosophila (aka VERY pesky fruit fly). I have put nets over the strawberry beds as the birds found the juicy ripe fruit before I did!!

Well, it is time to get ready to go down for yet another day at the barn, I wonder what today is going to bring. Every day is a new challenge. Take care, keep safe, M
