Quatre has a mission....!

It is 6.54am, the pitter patter of rain drops tells us that in the pitch black stillness beyond the window the days of early January sunshine are over and it’s back to puddles and dripping wet wear. Sunshine always makes everyone feel better, the horses, big and small gallop and buck with the sun on their backs. The formation eating team ( aka the ewes), tired of crowding under the boughs of the sweeping cedar to shelter from the biting wind and rain are happily munching their way through what little morsels of juicy grass they can find. Molly Moo and Daisy Mae have not ( so far) exhibited any indications that the calf fairy didn’t come to visit. We are keeping whatever we can crossed that Wayne the very nice artificial Insemination man doesn’t have to come back…at least till next year ! Typically, a cow in season is happy ( very happy) to let the whole know that a man is needed ..and now !  Currently the ladies are happily browsing the day away, sharing their pasture with Rodney the ram. Rodney the ram is without a job at the moment, his ladies happily rounded with pregnancy are disinterested in his half hearted advances  his interest will reawaken and the ewes will  enthusiastically reciprocate with the Springtime and after the arrival of the lambs. Macho ( the man) and Alyissia  (all that we have left of our goat population) still contentedly co habit. Alissia grows rounder by the day, her little body now more resembling a battleship than a little doe goat as her due date grows closer.

Quatre has been occupied constructing something to protect Bessie the old farm truck from the elements. Due to the no blame policy, I can’t reveal who exactly caused the truck window  to shatter into a million tiny fragments of glass….. but Quatre is working hard fixing it !

Ginger has been employed pruning the fruit trees. Looking at the book, it’s no big deal. In the book, all the branches head upwards in a uniform direction, in the book the branch ( with appropriate arrows ) tells you when pruning turns into butchery. Sadly, our trees don’t follow uniform patterns, since we have been here, each dormant season, the fruit trees get a manicure and over the years some kind of control has been taken over the wayward branches. It is Ginger’s first time to prune, the trees have been a challenge and have caused our WOOFER some anxt, prune or butcher….but she has done a good job and in the late summer, hopefully the trees will repay her efforts with bountiful fruits.

A new page has been added to the Web site. If you have a moment, we invite you to visit little Georgia’s site..HOPE FOR GEORGIA , please pass the word along to others about this desperate cause. Hopefully we can try to get more research, find out more about this terrible syndrome and hopefully save some young lives. Please help.

Take care, keep safe, M
