hay. This was from the perspective of goat kid Cody (4 legged variety), who decided to snuggle his way atop Holly’s feeder. The morning went as usual, if such a thing is possible with our ever-growing animal family. The kids never miss a bleat when it comes to requesting‘More Milk!” and can be heard boisterously calling from most edges of the ranch! They are gradually learning the pleasures of alfalfa and manna, and
hesitantly munched on the wild notion of solid food this evening. Tiger, the
brazen barn cat, took a stroll around the inner sheep field, which did not go
unnoticed. One by one sheep stepped up to ask after his business, some more
gently than others, and when the queue was four sheep deep, Tiger decided to
take inquiries from the top of an upside-down metal tub. He left as most
celebrities do, with a smile and a swish of the tail, unanswered questions left
burning in the air. No matter, Tiger makes sure to put himself in the way of
human arms, and the lambs are sticking close to Mamas, most of the time. Our
matriarch Gimpy is holding out; no lambs yet, and all eyes are on her. Unless,
of course, it’s eating-time. Cody (2 legged variety) managed to outrun most of the sheep this evening by dashing past there cluster and distributing supper without getting
mobbed. This was met with a chorus of baas, blats, bleats, and other burp-like
calls, which can cure any sour mood. On the other end of the farm all sorts of
equipment was playing musical chairs, or wheels, to make room for our beloved
ranch truck, which is in need of some tinkering. Several items were shuffled
around to make a repair site near the necessary tools. This was facilitated by
the tractor, which Cody got a hand at, or foot, two of them, and only stalled
once! Not too shabby for his first crack at a tractor clutch. Meanwhile John
repaired a fountain and cut lumber for shelves, safe and sound from loose,
face-scratching roosters. Seeing all the tiny adorable chicks clambering around
in a pile you’d never think they’d grow to be so fierce, but I guess that’s how
we all start, wobbly and diving for warmth into anything soft. The day ended
smoothly enough, with the exception of an ambitious Acorn plopping her head into
Alissia’s food bucket while Cody ( 2 legged) was trying to close the gate; they will do
anything for an extra nibble. The sky is gorgeous and sun is in the weekend
forecast; it’s indeed a good moment to live here with new life sprouting up and
dropping out all around. Thanks for reading and good day.
