Way down in New Mexico the Worlds best unpaid ranchand / cook ( Gregs mom) has been keeping a very close eye on the ranch. We know she follows my Daily diary, scouring the contents for news of progress in the lambing pen, in the chicken coop, who's coming and who's going. As well as checking on the diary, Mom has a hotline for news flashes and over the past few weeks she has used it !! Each morning Mom is on the other end of the line to discover which ewe has lambed and who is still in waiting. This morning, true to form Mom was catching up on the current status of an extremely heavily pregnant Katie. Katie is the odd one out in the sheep family, that little boxy ewe always keeps her distance both from us and from her sister ewes, apparently she also managed to keep quite the distance from Rodney the ram who clearly had to wait for her compliance ! Status report was still "no go", Katies tummy was still dragging on the ground and if a sheep could look miserable, Katie was succeeding to the point of suicidal. So, there we were, watching the moms being abused by their cute little offsprings, Mom on the other end of the line far away in Albuquerque was resigned to calling again tomorrow....and just like that, little Katie dropped one tiny little almost black lamb ....quickly followed by her twin. Thankfully both Katie and her eagerly anticipated offspring are all well and for as cantankerous as she is, she does make a very tolerant mom and puts a lot of effort into ensuring that her little ones grow up to be just as cantankerous as she is !

This morning our farrier came to give our three horses their 6 weekly manicure, I always view this routine operation with trepidation as our farrier is possibly....(almost certainly) shy of 5 foot and Quest our Shire gelding is close to 6 foot 6 at the shoulder. Quest has known our brave farrier since he was 6 weeks old and chewed on said farriers butt... but each visit is a challenge and one sighting of the farriers truck and our gentle giant turns into a jeuvenile delinquent. Much as we hate rewarding brattish behaviour, it has been noted that if Quest is kept occupied with a sack of carrots he forgets to make the farriers visit painful and (1) Carlos doesn't suffer further spinal rearrangement and (2) he will come back which is all good. I am happy to say that all went well, Quest od'd on carotene....and Carlos left smiling.

Well, Weebly Web Site cut me off in my prime yesterday (which is possibly a blessing as I was on a role and things needed to be done. )It's now Sunday morning and too late to ask you to take care so I'll wish you a happy Sunday. M
