Poor confused Gertie...!!

It’s Tuesday, a really Wintry, frosty, icy white…..did I mention REALLY bone chilling Cold Tuesday but I’m just fine ! Warm and super cosy, with a hot cup of tea and a cookie looking out the window down at frozen pond and a busy    reserve team hunkered up from the frigid temperatures. Down in the barn, there will be an aromatic warmth, steamy fumes rising from stalls not yet cleaned, piles of assorted smelly poop waiting for attention. Water buckets will be frozen ice blocks, some thirsty chickens will peck aggressively at the popsickle hanging from their automatic waterer and others huddle, feathers fluffed like a down comforter, heads tucked under wings waiting out the big freeze. Hopefully our squawky feathered friends remember to take time out to pop out an egg or two. Recently, production has been slowed by unofficial industrial action or unapproved vacation and “soup or chicken and dumplings” has been muttered on more than one occasion when the evening egg basket has looked dismally empty. Ginger our WOOFER chicken guru is doing a sterling job at keeping those egg cartons filled.

Gertie the confused Canadian goose is having a traumatic week. Eddie the bald eagle, having conceded that chicken is no longer available at the Gentle Giant Meadows Ranch “eat all you can” diner, and “Eddie the eagle's drop in” has been effectively foiled has turned his beady eagle eye on Gertie. Gertie the goose just wants to be a horse, she certainly has no aspirations to be on the Eagle’s menu. Sadly, Eddie the persistent and clearly hungry eagle just doesn’t get the message. Live and let live doesn't appear to be eagle policy and poor Gertie the goose is having to keep both her goosey eyes vigilant. It has been noted that Quest is having to be particularly careful where he sets his four feathered Shire hooves….for fear of standing on a goose which is hiding from an eagle… under a horse. It would be tragically ironic if Quest was the cause of Gerties demise whilst she was hiding from Eddie..... Watch this space, hopefully the hungry eagle will find another source for lunch / dinner, Gertie will survive  and with a bit of luck find a feathered beau this Spring.

Thank you Sandra for finding our site..and commenting on its content. Sandra is my cousin in England and it was wonderful to have her visit with us. Well, it is time for me to go back and rest, life is tough…smile. I am trying SO  hard to be good. Take care, keep safe and warm. M

We all have to eat,but I guess not what is not theirs. They just have to be vigilant. You are frigid, we also are wet and frigid. We are finally getting our fair share of rain by me and snow in the mountains. Some schools have been closed, and others on 2hr. delays. The other side of the mountain where Stanley lives has gotten quite a bit of snow. He is out of town right now. I'm starting to do my Christmas baking and cooking. Today I baked two cake lambs. Tomorrow morning I am going to baked two sweet breads, and maybe another two cake lambs, if I feel up to it. Good night. God Bless.
