Unsurprisingly, the first furry friend that greeted me as I stepped out of the truck was Tiger the ginger barn cat. Tiger is the ranch supervisor, if anything is happening on the farm, animals moving, sheep trimming or just people visiting, Tiger will appear, purr motor running, for a group hug !! From behind the barn Lucky the feral cat stalked regally across the yard at the sound of my voice and from high up on the hay stack a sleepy Shy came to rub my leg and let me know he is glad I’m back.
For the first time in months I took the flags down, the Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack, it was always my undertaking at the end of the day and I was so happy to be back lowering the fluttering flags knowing I will be back tomorrow.
Greg has taken the opportunity to make some executive decisions in my absence. I could see, as I took stock of changes that he was wondering if there was going to be a power struggle ( smile)…..mmmm, no, the reserve team has done a great job without me. With me back, the “t’s” get crossed and the “I’s” get dotted, just a little bit of cosmetic clean up and I’ll call it good !
Charm came out of the pasture with Ginger his ears pricked and his nose softly wickering. Mum’s back. Quest and Lady the Shire twosome turned at the sound of my voice and as I brushed their dense tails and combed their manes I could sense that they were glad I was back.
Alissia the doeling is due to kid in a couple of weeks ( eta around Feb 12 ) if Macho the man, our young Boer buck did what virile young bucks are supposed to do ( was that sensitive enough ?) She is enormous, solidly rounded with pregnancy but she came running and invited me to give her the carrots she knew would be in my pocket. Macho was withdrawn, he eyed me suspiciously from his vantage point on top of the feeder….he hadn’t given me permission to go away and he wasn’t going to just come running. Guess I’m going to have to work on the boy, it is good to keep a big Boer buck on your side !
It was good to be back, last year is just a bad memory and this year WILL be good. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers love and support, you have all helped keep me strong and positive and those good memories will last a lifetime.
Take care, keep safe, M
Please spend a moment reading the “Hope for Georgia” page and if you feel that you are able, offer a donation which will be used for research. These children really need our help. Thank you, M
