Jasper has been very busy and seems to have a lot of surplus energy..looks like we’ll have to work him harder.smile. Yesterday, despite a trip to the feed store to buy fat food for the voracious growing sumo chicks.( I have a feeling that if they didn’t find a full feeder they would probably eat each other..or us), Jasper helped Greg to give poor Lamb Chop a butt wash, fortunately for Jasper, he had the head end! Lamb Chop has never considered himself a sheep and puts up very little opposition to a wash and brush up as long as a little snack or two comes his way through the process. After chores were completed Jasper and Greg went to work with the saw mill in preparation for some work which I believe is a project Greg is looking forward to sharing with our WOOFER interns. Jasper got to help Greg give Gimpy a manicure, Gimpy (as her name implies) has always had bad feet and despite care, the winter dampness takes its toll. Now she is in isolation on R and R away from her lambs ( who incidentally don’t appear to have noticed her absence) it will be easier to take care of her.. again, Gimpy is easily bribed into submission and puts up very little opposition to people care. Bran is a different matter and Madame Gimpy has often T boned the dog after he has ignored her foot stamping warnings. Bran wisely keeps a safe distance from the feisty ewe. Jasper has, until last night, (wisely) maintained a cautious distance from the biting or kicking ends of the big horses. Last night confidence gained and reassured that it was most unlikely( but never guaranteed!) for the Gentle Giants to bite or kick the hand that feeds, Jasper was seen fraternizing with Lady and Quest. It was a good day down on the ranch.
Well, the cuckoo clock cuckooed 7am and its time for me to get down to the barn. Take care, keep safe and Mum J we are thinking of you today.
