The team divided and (almost ) conquered the farm vegetable garden. After all the animals were turned out into the pastures and completing morning chores we turned our attention on the 100 x 100ft “little” patch of land that is apparently bent on recreating the jungle from Jurassic Park. Why oh why do the weeds grow so much faster than anything we want to grow and why does it seem that I just clear a patch move on to another, look back and there just like bad magic, nasty little baby weeds are already poking their heads above the only just cleared garden?! Nooooooo!! Lesley and Nara got to work on the Grape arbour which had, despite Jodi and Quatre’s ministrations managed to look decidedly abandoned. No longer…. waving fronds and grapes which have managed to escape the attention of the crows( who have been very diligent in their grape harvesting) have been clipped and tucked back into an orderly line. Great job ladies.
Since bending and twisting very quickly reminds me that my back thinks that I am MUCH older than the rest of me feels, I took a dust bath and with good company and girlie bonding the afternoon soon passed. The guys, Greg, ( not in his BOSS t shirt) Derek and Azam got to work on a stretch of fencing that clearly has only managed to stay upright thanks to the blackberry bush. Much to Azam’s horror, removing a rusty antiquated staple, one aged cedar post just crumbled before his eyes, not too encouraging for a fencing student in Gregs school of how NOT to fence, smile!
Last night after a shopping expedition, we were treated to a cultural demonstration when Nara and Azim showed us and wore their traditional Arabic dress. It was quite amazing to watch the transformation of these two young people and recognise their pride in home and family. Thank you Nara and Azim for sharing both with us.
Finally, Lesley and Derek took little Hol-ley for a walk….um…Hol-ley took Lesley for a walk…uh….ok, it actually was a very close resemblance to a touch of calf roping! Needs a bit of work I think !!
Time to go, I’m late,..again. Take care, keep safe, M
