It's Summer and we are ready for it!

It was the first really warm day this year, but it didn’t start that way! One of those days when I leave the house looking much like one of the sumo chickens down at the barn, growing bigger just thinking about food …I started with a little T shirt, top with a bigger one, then a long sleeved number, fleece, warm jacket…I wasn’t going to be caught out cold. It wasn’t long before the sun started to warm up a farmyard weary of the long Winter months, the flowers turned their colourful petals towards the sun. the chickens in the roost had a problem, the trees we planted last year to afford them some shade were inviting… but high above, sailing up and down on the thermals a fully fledged bald eagle was looking for lunch. Out in the pasture, Roman took advantage of the mud patch he has created.. and he rolled. He didn’t roll just once and be done, he rolled and shook, rolled and shook again. His beautiful glossy coat previously shining like ebony was transformed into a mud pack, The sheep and lambs sprawled in the shade of the huge maple trees, heavy breathing replacing the usual bleating and baaaing, there was no energy to spare. Alissia and Danielle not content with trying to find shade, climbed the Willow tree, languished amongst the branches and munched on the juicy Willow leaves.

Last night we took advantage of the weather change and saddled up Roman. Roman belongs to a very good friend of ours and he came to board here a couple of months ago. Roman is handsome, a pitch black Morgan with as much attitude as Charm and just as beautiful. It is a while since Roman had a saddle on his back and we were prepared for behaviour which possibly wouldn’t have fitted into my surgeons “light riding” decree….but it all worked out, having determined that, should I have had to part company with him, (it really wasn’t far to fall) I climbed aboard and took him for a trial drive. Happily, brakes accelerator and steering were all in the right place and working well. Mica enjoyed a little walk around the barn yard… now all we have to do is get  Jourdan on board.
One not so small amendment from yesterdays diary....It's a 14 year marriage to which I was referring...not, I hasten to add, a 14 year old !!! Shock and horror when I re read the entry!.
Well, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, the cuckoo is cuckooing and it’s time to get to work. Take care, keep safe and cool. M
