Good Morning world, it’s Sunday, the sky is grey and a watery sun is trying to break through over Gentle Giant Meadows Ranch. It’s Maureen back on the keyboard hopefully I can chronicle the daily dramas down in the farmyard by vicariously living through the barnyard accounts and anecdotes gleaned out of the team… if I can keep anyone still for long enough !

Today it is little Katie’s’ birthday, since road trips have been limited to medical necessities and shopping hasn’t happened for the past 6 weeks I didn’t get a birthday card in the post and we feel really bad but Katie Sweetheart, if you read this, Granny and Granddad hope you have a great day and we will be thinking about you.

Yesterday was a sad day, two thirds of the English contingent escaped and will now be back on English soil…we will miss you Annie and Malc ! Looking forward to the next time and hopefully better circumstances. Come “home” soon!!! The loss of the English team signals serious consequences here at the ranch….(1) Greg has lost his “mucker outers”, the escapees were an awesome pair clearing the seemingly endless production line of poo (2) The team, with big brother John had perfected the art of uncomplainingly digging holes and filling them. Picking up wood, loading up the truck, unloading the wood to the wood pile and then reloading the same wood to take up to the house …to, yes you have guessed it…unload it to take it down to the furnace. It would be SO much easier to just turn on the central heating !! smile. Now we are just waiting for a huge gully washer that will test the durability and fortitude of the flood prevention system the English team dug and… re dug….  Thank you, till next time !!

Ginger, our newest and very welcome WOOFER is enthusiastically absorbing the myriad of experiences and knowledge that Greg and the animals are supplying. Yesterday Ginger noticed that Macho ( the MAN!) had relocated himself from his assigned pasture into an adjoining pasture. No big deal…until you realize that Macho (the MAN) has a low tolerance level for anything male. In the adjoining field there are several ram lambs currently running on an overload of testosterone, very anxious to demonstrate their potency and eager to procreate using any and everything that moves ..or doesn’t. Thankfully, Ginger already recognises that, unfortunately,..so does Macho the buck and having the two sets of lusty testosterone charged animals in adjoining pastures was a recipe for a potential massacre. So enthusiastic was Macho to go and check out his neighbours, he climbed a wall of railroad ties and wrapped himself up in the electric fence…clearly it is going to be necessary to rebuild San Quentin to keep our lusty goat out of trouble. Alissia who, hopefully has already been “visited” by Macho (and is consequently no longer of lusty interest to him) was happy to alert Ginger to Macho’s indiscretion and verbally and physically let our WOOFER know that Macho had escaped.. and was, presumably getting some delicacy that she wasn’t. Macho the man was rounded up, the lamb rams settled down and peace and harmony was restored to the barnyard.

Well, I’ve wriggled and jiggled, sat, stood and lay down in the course of this diary entry and I guess it’s time I went back to doctors orders. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, hopefully my recovery will be complete and speedy. Till then, I will do what I can to keep you up to date with our daily shenanakins!

Take care, keep safe and well, M
