It's Friday !

IT’S FRIDAY !!! I’m not really sure exactly why Friday should cause such excitement or even why it should cause any excitement at all….on the ranch every day is a working day, every holiday is a working day and any time off always has a reason…which is usually prompted by the needs of the ranch. I guess it just goes back to my other life, working for the British Government in an office.. and Friday meant two days out of work.” When in America do as the Americans do” generally isn’t a problem but everyone that knows me knows that the fawcett is still the tap and a hamburger still a beefburger. There is also the issue of THE COW. The cow was a gift from a much loved niece in 2006. At first the ceramic bovine was a “what / where “ issue ! What am I going to do with it and when that is decided, where am I going to put it. So I put it down, I put it down with the Union Jack facing out. This apparently caused an issue with Greg, who insisted the cow was reversed to show the American flag. Since 2006 the cow has been turned whenever the opportunity arrises, if the cow was real, it would be a cheese or yoghurt supply. Some visitors or house guests join in the covert activity, my kids told us to “get a life” and one day we might grow up…..but we aren’t rushing it !

Yesterdays break out by Macho and Lamb Chop caused my blood pressure to elevate at an alarming rate…my heart rate was off the clock and my temper, rarely seen, was rising ! Lamb Chop and Macho munched their way through the barn yard without causing too much of a disaster but typically, the object of their attention that caused the most culinary interest was the most expensive tree in the yard. My $40 tree was a gift, I have lovingly watered and cared for that tree, I have watched it flourish and, from my kitchen window, I watched it being pruned relentlessly by the two escapees !!

It doesn’t take too much to please me, and yesterday after taking two trays of sticky pecan brownies out of the oven, I went back down to the barn to find Ursula hard at work with a paint brush, smartening up the other barn kitchen door and wearing a smile bigger than herself !

During the course of the afternoon, I was delighted to find that Greg and Quatre had constructed a gate system that will make life considerably less difficult for me, thank you guys !

I had an apology that I had never expected to have to make and it all goes back to the chicken house. The apology was to Ursula who is a German national and the reason for the apology, “Adolf” and “Adolfs brother Adolf” two identical roosters who were named after their goosestep march was noticed. Fortunately Ursula is not over sensitive and I caused no upset. It made me realize that I should possibly consider such matters when our critters are named!

I think the Otter Pop, ice pop people should give us a commission…during this hot spell I think we are possibly breaking some Otter Pop record..if there is one!

Time to go, the cuckoo clock has cuckooed and the roosters are crowing. Greg is on the move and Bran is poised.

Take care, keep safe and cool. M

had a laugh thinking about THE COW. That's the most travelled cow ever - firstly brought over from The UK and then has been several places in and around Seattle with photos to prove it. And it was once kidnapped.....it still provides a lot of fun to all that take part in the "turning" of the cow altho' I have to say when Mal and I are over there Greg has no chance...haha !!
