Chance the little white lamb was almost dead, in the second stage of hypothermia and appeared to have lost the will to live when Greg discovered her. Her mom, Annie had triplets and, possibly because Chance was the weaker lamb Annie concentrated on her other babies. Thats how she got her name, Greg did not expect her to survive but, as long as there is some sign (however small ) of life she still had a chance.
Last night Chance became officially a future member of the 3 Amigos...who will now be known as The Favoured Four. Lamb Chop ( without doubt the ugliest little Ram, so ugly,he's special ), Daisy May, the Dexter calf and Macho the Boer Cross goat buck will have another play mate. Greg took off her ear tag which means that Chance wont end her days on a Sunday dinner plate garnished with mint sauce and accompanied by mashed potato. Today we are going on a mission, to find some newborn diapers (nappys). Chance is only tiny but it would appear that being tiny doesn't necessarily mean she makes little puddles or little piles, that little lady kept Greg on the move last night. I say "kept Greg" because I am still not allowed to bend (doctors orders !). So, I did the spotting and Greg swooped in ( sort of ) and mopped it up. Greg did such a good job, I think he can add poo/pee mopper upper to his cv.
It really shouldn't happen to a dog, poor Bran, our Border Collie has tolerated all sorts of creatures, fur and feathers he is ready to guard and protect, sometimes to a fault, Chance pushed his tolerance to the limit last night ...the lamb was chasing the dog....round and round the kitchen...under the table...behind the furniture, there was nowhere that little lamb wouldn't go. Poor Bran, all he wanted was 5 minutes time out but Chance wasn't for giving up and continued to boing around the kitchen after him until she spotted her supper. If there is anything that little Lady likes more than harassing the dog....it's food.. I don't think we have to concern ourselves with her survival any more, we may have to concern ourselves with Brans lamb induced lack of self esteem. How many other dogs have been chased around by a lamb ?...We wont tell.
Well, it's all quiet up here, Greg and Bran are down at the barn. Chance is down in the sheep pen learning how to be a sheep from her siblings and this evening my kitchen will turn into a barn again. Take care, I'm going to take a nap. M
