The Gentle Giant Meadows Ranch farming library is out of Greg’s den…I’m more than a little surprised that we could locate Greg in there or even escape the gruesome man cave with our assorted pile of “dos.. don’ts…must doos and most definitely leave WELL alone books. We have books about cows, calving, sheep ( multiples of) lambs, horses dogs and then there are books about all of the above and currently they are ALL out in my kitchen!! So, we have experts or potential experts, all, I hope competent and accomplished enough to cope with any birthing complications upside down, right way up or nose and tail first ! Just call 1 800 WOOFER expert(s) Heeeelp! The calves are due today..7 pairs of beady eyes have scanned and scrutinized considered and discounted the bovine butts progress. Last night as the two moms in waiting settled down for the night, comfortably and unconcerned it looked more like Rodney the ram was the expectant one. Looks of total disinterest from the grass gorged threesome met hopeful watchers as the barn doors closed for the night.

So, we are excited for this morning…although at this moment in time the A team appear to have no concern more interesting than munching down the sourdough pancakes Greg has browning in the griddle. I will give an update on the birthing progress at lunchtime…keep fingers, toes and anything else you can cross crossed.

Young Holly went out to fetch big boy Quest  in from the pasture yesterday. I was watching the procedure from the kitchen where I had an apple pie burning in the oven. I saw a quad driving towards the horses and their helpers. I saw the quad continue to advance on the big horses and I saw the said quad NOT stop as he passed the big horses. From my vantage point in the kitchen window my heart leapt into my mouth as Quest reacted to the quad and both he and young Holly teetered on the bank of the ditch. The driver continued to drive as he turned to check the reaction to his idiocy and I had a mental picture of 2 squashed people a crumpled quad and a broken horse. Fortunately Holly reacted amazingly to the potential crisis and both she and Quest returned safely to the barn. Well done Holly, hope we don’t see that quad again for a long time!!

Danielle is still poorly sick …we have, I think established a potential cause of her owie…we think that our little doeling was tree climbing and came down faster than she went up. We think that she has possibly badly bruised her ribs or internal organs and since she is still peeing and pooping we have hope for her recovery. Updates will be available on her progress as and when there is something to share.

Time to go, everyone is on the move and I’m still sitting here tapping away with my one finger. Take care, keep safe and thank you all for your lovely comments. M

We're having a heat wave here in the NE....95 today, but feels like 105, allergies at an all time high! Anticipating the birth of calves today and wishing Danielle a speedy recovery, poor thing. Way to go Holly, you show the quad who's boss in the pasture! Keep smiling ~
