I'd never have made a pioneer !

Oh dear ! I don't think I would have made much of a pioneer. We had been invited to a barbque yesterday afternoon and it was lovely. Lots of lovely people, lots of wonderful food....lots of children..and SMOKE !! There I was, holding my special sharpened stick ( I'm sure that there has to be a great art to sharpening those sticks...some people had sticks with 2 points so they could cook 2 hot dogs at once ( ingenious) others, less artistic but just as ravenous jammed 2 sausages on the same stick. I quickly learnt that (1) I was not born with an ability to dangle a sausage over a wood fire and cook the thing evenly without it turning into a charred offering (2) Trying to cook a charcoal sausage over a wood fire causes much smoke which had the direct result of causing my eyes to look like I was having a total emotional breakdown..which I may have done if Greg hadn't rescued my charred offerings. We had a fun time though, caught up with some friends we haven't seen for a long time and Greg loves charcoal hotdogs so it was all good.

Not much going on down on the ranch, Dolly, Molly Moo and Rodney ram are getting the idea that the gate opens and first Rodney trots out ( and pauses a moment to collect a carrot ) followed by Dolly looking more like a lowline tank as she sort of gallops and then Molly moo who doesn't allow herself to move any faster than a fast walk because that would look like she was co operating with us ( and that would never do !). The grass is tall enough that we can only locate the 3 eating machines by the mowed down grass trail. At last the lambs are becoming to recognize that when they go out to the pasture, the general idea is that they all go....and preferably together ! Invariably 99 percent of the flock head out of the gate at a headlong gallop...and 3 little lambs are left in the dust, wondering what on earth just happened and where on earth had mom gone. Those little lambs were clearly born with less sense of direction than even me and total panic ensues. For Bran, its great, all his Christmas's come at once and chasing ( I think I mean herding ) the frantic lambs into the pasture to join their moms is what he was born to do ! Luckily the crisis doesn't last too long and eventually moms and offspring are re united...hopefull having learnt to pay attention.

Well, it's time to get moving again, yesterdays sunshine has gone and heavy clouds have replaced the blue sky. Everyone will be waiting for breakfast so we need to get down to the barn and get the gravy train on the go. Take care, keep safe, M
