I was on a mission !

It doesn’t matter how many showers I take or how many times I wash my hands….it’s an occupational hazard for us farmers…grubby hands ! For what seems like eons the rest of me manages to scrub up well enough ( in the 10 minutes I am usually allocated !) Somehow during the course of the day, after cleaning the chicken coop my hair will have a liberal dusting ( if I’m lucky and if I’m not, a nasty blob) of chicken poop…and my hands, even in gloves get grubby. NOT nice. Cleaning the goats is always a very social affair. Alicia and Acorn love to visit. Alicia and Acorn our very pregnant goats just love to have their heads scratched, a good deep bare hand ( it seems gloves are suspicious) massage around the ears and a tickle under the chin clearly makes for contented goats but somehow even the cleanest goats can help to make your hands even grimier. Both Daisy Mae and Misty Moo the cows love a vigorous rub, heads drop and bottom lip quivers in rapture as the ladies soak in the moment……cows aren’t clean and…you’ve guessed it… my hands suffer. Clearly the worst offenders for the current state of my hands are the horses. Horses roll in mud, horses feet are full of mud, horses rugs (after the horses roll in mud) are full of mud. my poor hands are cracked and dry and…grubby and I haven’t even started gardening yet !!

I was on a mission, I needed a hand cleaner and I needed it yesterday. I had found myself hiding my grubby digits when meeting people and cringing with embarrassment when out shopping. Greg is well used to me being on a mission and knows that when this lady farmer sets her mind on something she doesn’t give up. I set out to find a way to rescue my hopeless hands and I found it sitting right  heir in my kitchen ! It was like a witches brew…a little bit of borax…sugar…Dawn liquid washing soap and to keep my desperate hands “soft” a few drops of olive oil. I was intent, kitchen cabinets were open…draws were open the ingredients were here somewhere and I was going to find them. I found two recipes….two has to be better than one ..right ? I mixed two recipes for good measure and IT WORKED. My hands are clean, not quite soft yet and I’m sure far from office hands but for right now, this lady farmer is happy !

Thanks to Carla who came to the ranch to help Greg out on Monday. It is always lovely to see that happy face and we hope it wont be too long till we see her again. Good luck in your new venture Carla we will be following your exploits on your new farm blog. Love you Carla www.mountainbedfarm.com   check it out !!

Got to go, Take care, keep safe, M
