Little Danielle, one of our doe lings has an owie, a BIG owie but despite having a manicure, a heavy dose of magic cream and lunch in bed, Danielle stubbornly refused to get well. Mary, our goat mentor and eternal optimist came by but despite a considerable amount of running hands up bony little legs, feeling for heat and checking tiny little cloven hooves Danielle’s ailment remained undiagnosed. Maci Paden from Clover Valley Veterinary services to the rescue. We still aren’t sure what ails our little four legged friend but Maci impressed Greg ( who isn’t easily impressed!) with her goat friendly attitude and knowledge…not to mention, despite an urgent appointment, we don’t have to take out a new house payment to pay for her services… Maci, you have got a whole farmyard of new fans! Can you fix us too ???? we are a little bit brokenMorning chores these days are a breeze! Our biggest problem isn’t the copious piles of various colours/types textures of poo…..it is trying to find a shavings picker, wheelbarrow or sweeping brush which disappear like magic to all corners of the barn as soon as the last animal has been turned out into the pasture…..and Lamb Chops less than pleasant butt has been hosed down. If you aren’t really quick, your back is turned or you are involved in a conversation, little Mica will be off around the barn with her winnings. But it’s all good and by 9.30am the A team are all around the barn kitchen table being entertained by Miss Mica. I still never quite got the point of the mosquito story..but coffee break time ran out before we had got through the preview. Another time Mica….another time.
So, yesterday evening saddles and bridles were hauled out from the barn..again. No need to brush off the dust now, those saddles are getting well used. Lady and Charm got that look on their faces .. Oh no, not again ! All our WOOFERS/visitors/friends got to ride, Derek looked like Roy Rogers on Trigger (shows my age) as he rode off into the sunset on Charm with attitude and by the time Quatre and Holly had also taken the Charm experience….Charms attitude wasn’t so much attitude as before. Lady also got her work out, Leslie Greg and young Holly took the shire Mare out for a work out … it may be wishful thinking but either all her lumps and bumps are evening out…or she is slimming down..Lumpy Lady is shrinking!!
Derek tried an experiment yesterday. He wanted to know just how much little Chance the lamb with an identity crisis thought she was a people/lamb or a dog/lamb. It didn’t take too long to recognise that Chance clearly does have an identity crisis but, I think it is actually ALL OF THE ABOVE and having peanutted out and eaten almost a bag of carrots, that little lamb took to munching my roses! End of experiment, Chance, possibly with an even bigger identity crisis was very smartly returned to her peer group who were all happily munching through the pasture and all happily knowing that they are indeed sheep.
So much to record, so little time to put it on record, it’s time to go and find some trouble to get into. Take care, keep safe, M
