Early mornings are particularly noisy and busy on the ranch. The sound of the truck arriving at the barn appears to trigger a cacophony of sound from all the different pens. In the hen pen, Adolf the Rhode Island Rooster stands on the biggest rock surrounded by his ladies, they clucking impatiently for the grain basket to arrive and he cock-a-doodle-dooing masterfully for all his world to hear. Lady and Quest in their stalls stretch their heads over the stall door and whinney softly, Charm, as always beauty with attitude does nothing softly or quietly and when the barn door opens swirls around his stable tossing his head and calling loudly. Midnight our newest boarder has however got Charm beat on the impatience scale, that beautiful black Morgan gelding wants everything NOW if not sooner ! On his first day, I was sure that there was going to be a trip to The Home Despot (Depot) for a HUGE box of ear plugs. Midnights first day proved him to be a potential demolition expert, his stall was in real danger of being demolished..and very quickly. Midnight could, I swear kick the door with both ( maybe all 4 !!) feet at one time. Hasty board meeting and we fastened string on the door so he can't get close enough with his kick machine. We had won the skirmish..but Midnight was determined that he was going to win the war, Midnight took to scraping his hooves across the cement floor behind the stall door. NO !!!! what now ? I may not have a Batchelors degree and I'm certainly not an Einstein...but I can think pretty quickly. Out came the tractor and before that horse had time to work out which leg he was going to scrape with next we had a rubber mat on the ground...still scrapes but with 90 percent less annoyance level !! The sheep goats and cows also recognise the radio churning out country music to be the sound of the dinner gong and from the farm end of the barn a chorus of Baaas on different levels of the richter scale. Little Chance, determindly hugging the patch of fence from whence the bottle appears resists the buffeting and bullying of the moms and her hungry siblings. Calling loudly, head in the air and eyes closed, heart and soul goes into her breakfast wail !
Oops, it's 7.30, they'll all be waiting, they will all he calling...and they' all be STARVINGll More rain predicted today...it's ok, I'm already frizzy ! Take care, keep safe and well, ( for a special person who needs your prayers) and smile ! M
