Good news !!! Not a goose in sight this morning. The pastures are free of big bickering birds, the  cacophony of trumpeting geese doesn’t  break the early morning silence over the valley and Bran the Border Collie can sleep in peace, one ear and one eye slightly cocked ready for the call to duty that hopefully wont be made. Clearly the geese have no fear of the gun, when did evolution advise the goose that hunting season doesn’t start ‘till September and when did Gentle Giant Meadows Ranch get put on the  goose Expedia map for greatest vacation destinations ??

Just to add insult to injury Doris the Destroyer is back and the newly blossoming blooms on my tenderly nurtured Rose of Sharon shrubs are denuded. Doris the black tail doe deer and I got up very close and personal yesterday, just a little too close… evidence undeniable , closed case view of a pretty pink petal disappearing down her slender deer neck and it is fair to say I was NOT impressed. Unquestionable deer prints are all over my garden, little piles of doe poop throughout my orchard…Doris has the freedom of the whole of Western Washington….why has she and her family and (in all probability her family’s family !) chosen our smorgasbord ?

The ranch team had a mission yesterday…they dug a hole..a big hole and then they filled it in again ( sound familiar, smile !!). Actually, it was an important big hole and the mission was of mega importance and the team did great !! The prototype hole…um….the first hole had been beautifully trellised  (in my estimation but what do I know about engineering/construction ?). Greg complimented said hole, all looked good, everyone smiled, Greg went a little silent …then he said that word…BUT..! It seems the angle of the cement blocks weren’t quite right, erosion..sheep..(deer!!) anything could destroy it and it seemed a rebuild was inevitable. It was. The team stepped up to the challenge, Edward got dirty…. Actually everyone got dirty but the mission was accomplished, the irrigation pipe Stonehenge was constructed, the team even erected cairns to add aesthetic beauty to the new monument…water trickled through… and Greg was happy. All is good in the world…except for Doris and the geese and…

It’s cuckoo call time. Got to go. Looks like another beautiful day out there, cloudless sky  (and currently NO geese).

Take care, keep safe, M

If it takes 4 Yanks half a day to dig a hole.
How long does it take 2 Yanks to dig half a hole.

Answer: There's no such thing as "Half a Hole".

Yes...Rose of Sharon is a favorite of "island" deer too. Mine is blue and has wire mesh fencing all around it. The branches that manage to grow through the mesh are promptly pruned. What's a person to do! LOL
