Yesterday I managed to reinforce my accident prone image when I ended up checking out the rain clouds whilst lying in the muck heap......not the traditional place for taking a nap, it hurt and I smelt really bad !!! One minute I was skulking round the back of the barn trying to empty my steaming wheelbarrow before the back police siren went off and the next, brush, shovel and fork went into orbit, my feet did a great rendition of a tap dance and before I knew it, I was hitting the ground, I don't bounce.....and it hurt. What was worse, all the commotion brought the back police (and reinforcements) running. Now, I don't tell lies,...sometimes ( when REALLY necessary, I may sort of bend the truth) and even if I did lie, I don't think that there was any possible way I could have given a valid, get me out of trouble type of reason for taking a nap on the poo pile ! Fortunately, Greg, being my hero and 'cause he loves me was momentarily ( I did get the "taking care of yourself" lecture later) more concerned that English blood was being spilt and being prone on the manure heap is not good for my health and well being. Thats when things got interesting ! We do have a first aid box in the barn...we also have a veterinary cupboard...guess what jumped into his hand ! So there I was bleeding to death...well,... sort of grazed a bit with little stones embedded in my elbow and Doctor Greg is cleaning me up with stuff used to fix a horses owie. Only round here !!! Then, while I couldn't escape I got the "now if you hadn't been doing what you shouldn't......" This morning I am reminded of my sin, I HURT !!!
I don't know if you are aware of The Horse Whisperer well, I think I am going to call myself The ram whisperer. Rodney, the Barbados Black Bellied ram is usually a pretty calm, chilled sort of animal but yesterday he almost blotted his proverbial copy book. As usual, when Dolly, Molly Moo and Rodney ram ambled back into their pen for the night, their food buckets were ready and waiting. Each animal has its own bucket and said bucket is always in the same place. For some reason, yesterday Rodney decided that the food bucket in front of Molly Moo clearly contained some delicacy not in his bucket in his designated corner. Molly Moo moved over to let Rodney check out her dinner. Greg sent me round to readjust the status quo in the cattle pen and Rodney let me know ..in no uncertain terms that he was NOT happy with my interference. Rams heads are SOLID and they use them for attack and defence. at that particular moment in time, I knew that attack was on his mind. As he backed up 10 steps and lowered his head, I think every bad word I have never said came to mind....I was in big trouble.so instinctively (thank you God) I made myself as BIG as I could, spread my arms like wings, locked my eyes on his and stayed motionless ( except for my knocking knees and my teeth chattering ! I could not believe what I saw !! Rodney could not maintain the eye contact, he sheepishly ( oh dear, that was bad !!) looked anywhere but me and he turned away from the confrontation. So, I'm top ram now !!!!
I'm late, it's gone 7.30, the animals will eat me for breakfast. Take care, keep safe and well, M
