A Little Bit About the Farm
Hello and welcome to our web site. We would like to introduce ourselves to you and share our ranch and the ethics that guide us as guardians of the animals in our care. My name is Maureen, in my "other life" I was a city girl living in the North West of England and working in an office for the Government. Greg, my husband went to England on business in 1994. We met on a cold windswept beach because of a horse and the rest (as they say) is history! In 2004 we left England. Greg was coming back home to the pacific North West. I was starting a new life being a ranch owner. No more corporate clothes, business meetings or office politics. As an animal lover, at first I had serious misgivings about raising animals for meat and remember telling Greg that I would be unable to eat the meat from the animals we raised. Over the following months, after watching the calves and lambs playing in the green fields under the cedar trees and watching their growth through the first seasons, I realized that there was room and maybe even a need for compassionate farmers in the market place. If we could give the animals the best life that they could have, for the time they had, and ensure that their end was as calm and as painless as we could make it, then I could envisage myself as a farmer. Greg and I have worked together from the start to build our dream. Every day is a new adventure and the welfare of our animals is always our number one priority. We raise grass fed Jersey cattle as naturally as possible. We also raise lamb which we leave with their mothers as long as possible. For the welfare of the animals, we only allow one breeding cycle a year. It is important to us that our animals do not suffer or stress and on their last day they are quietly pushed up into the holding pens. We get no pleasure out of raising animals that have a poor quality of life. If you would ever like to come down to the Ranch, visitors are more than welcome, Greg and I will be more than happy to introduce you to our animals. We believe that if you are buying animals from us then you should be able to see where and how they are bred and raised. We look forward to meeting you. Thank you, take care and God Bless. Maureen and Greg.
