Yesterday was a busy day here at the ranch, Quatre got to work with the pressure washer. I became intimately acquainted with that machine during the first few years here and very quickly learnt that it has a mind of its own and it’s MALICIOUS !! I can’t count how many times I went to war with that thing and it won every time. I was soaked from head to toe and if mud is good for the skin…. I didn’t need a mud bath. Lesley Holly and Derek went to work constructing new lodgings for the calf/calves…should they ever arrive! There are SO many ways to use baling twine and that stuff sends me into a nervous tic reaction every time. It was everywhere, if baling twine could tie it, it got tied. If there was something to laugh at, we laughed and the good humour was contagious. Every work session around here turns into a party and what’s even cooler..the work gets done too.
All day the A team could be found peeping through the rails of the delivery room. A suspected contraction caused much excitement, each move was a suspect move, leg movements weren’t just relocation of weight….it was somehow connected with the birthing process and if her tail came up or to the side it wasn’t to poo or pee, clearly baby was on the way. Lesson learnt from yesterday..a watched kettle never boils…a watched pregnant cow ISN’T going to calve to order!! Clearly, Molly’s offspring is going to arrive when we are off the farm or busy doing something else!
Chuck has put us on warning…he was out in the field mowing yesterday. If all goes to plan ( does it ever ?) Sunday the team will be out bucking Hay. Ibuprofen, Icy Hot and Tiger Balm will be freely available..counselling on request!
Time to go, it’s 7.20am and the team are ready for another day. I wonder what surprises there will be for us today ?
Take care, keep safe M
