Good morning, sorry I haven't been around much over the past few days, actually I've been around a lot, thats why I haven't been here !! Friday was a GREAT day, I went to a Mustard Seed meeting, the volunteer job Greg and I do ( amazing organization), left there at midday and got home in time for a coach load of lovely ladies from the Farm Bureau who arrived for a farm visit. It was Sooooo much fun ! We had a wonderful time with them all, hope we hear from them again...and they didn't even have a problem with my accent ! (or they were too polite to say) Thank you ladies. Saturday, another very early start and off we went to the Community Liveable Fair, met some really nice people and were amazed at the strength of community feeling here on the Penninsula. This is a wonderful place to live. Sunday, early again and off to the Farmers Market in Key Centre. Its a secret, Greg thinks I go there to work but I have 6 hours of visiting with such a diversity of people and I come back to the farm so tired but elated. I also get to sell some eggs .... !!Yesterday, our friend Diane went back to England, she is disabled and struggles with mobility so getting here takes a huge effort and we really do appreciate you Diane. Some of you may have got to meet her over the past few days. Got to go, carton some (lots of) eggs. Bye till next time. M

Thursday May 6th, today is a special family day. Its my twins birthday, Happy Birthday boys, 35 years old and the other side of the Atlantic . I'm very proud of you and your own little families. Today is also Quests ( our younger shire horse) birthday. He was born 5 years ago here on the ranch. His name is sort of special (as is he). When my mum, Bridget (Bridie) passed away she left me a little money and we used a little of that money to breed Lady to an old English Shire. When he was born, we called him Bridies Bequest in her memory. I'm going to use this blog to mention the many family and friends that have helped here on the farm since we got here 5 years ago. Gregs family and mine have been amazing and have played a part in making this Ranch what it is and what it is becoming. Thank you all, too many to mention- but special mention to Gregs Mom who, at nearly 90 comes from Albuquerque and cleans out the chicken house de-poops the cows field and and makes feeds for the animals.( she cooks great cookies too !!!) We love you all. Our friends, some of whom have been working through their own tradgedies and difficulties have always been there for us. Thank you all, so much...We couldn't have made it without you. Changing the subject, The chickens all made it and for my sleepless night they made a break for it yesterday. Actually it was quite funny, chicks running all over the place and Greg chasing them with a catch net ! Its nearly time to go down to the barn, we have a coach load of ladies (75 I think )coming tomorrow on a visit. Looking forward to meeting them all. Take care everyone, bye for now. M
Good Morning...or is it ? Does it happen to any other ladies. When I went to bed I looked passable...well, ...ok (with one eye open and one already asleep) I woke up this morning, (other eye open, 2nd eye wishing it was still asleep) went into the bathroom and there was another wrinkle, I swear it wasn't there yesterday and I didn't do that much smiling yesterday so I cant even call it a "laughter line ". Greg says I have to grow old gracefully,...I'm REALLY trying !!! At this rate makeup will turn into body putty !! Greg talked about putting his "BOSS" T shirt on this morning, I had to do a really quick laundry roundup ( and it wasn't even dirty !), he puts that shirt on and I'm in trouble !! I know there was a revolution against the Brits in 1776 but there will be no drowning tea in the pond on our Ranch. Must remember to put the flag(S) up today.smile. I'm a bit concerned this morning (other than the wrinkle thing) yesterday we opened the door on the chicken shack (we have two chicken houses, the old one affectionately known as the "shack", the new one, grandly known as the "Roost with a view"). Lots of little feathered heads peeked out for their first view of the world and by pm yesterday most were out exploring. My concerns multiplied overnight, what if Tiger Shy and Lucky fancy a KFC, what if Rocky Racoon and his family that Lisa feeds up the hill fancy a change from cat food...I never thought about the weather. MJ on Fox woke me up with a start...FREEZING. Oh no, mass chicken genicide in the shack, and it will all be my fault, I thought they would enjoy the sunshine. I'll let you know tomorrow. Oh, before I go, quick mention to family, all my sons (3) called me yesterday. One when I was picking a horses feet (BIG horse) one when I was mucking out (try that with one hand, dont multifunction very well) and one when I was indisposed. Always happens but I love you boys, thanks. Bye for now, leave me a comment if you get a moment, I'd love to hear how we are doing .
Wow, what a bad hair day !! The big horses had the wind up their tails going out to pasture, even Gertie had to adjust his/her flight plan trying to land for his/her (from now on I'm going to call Gertie "her") date with Quest. I went into town to do my bi weekly volunteer job at the Mustard Seed, what a great service that is ! It feels so good to "give back" to a community that is so good to us and the seniors are so special. It does give me a problem though...what to wear ?..I just Goodwilled all my corporate clothes..are you reading this Greg, maybe I need to go SHOPPING (back to Goodwill to buy them back, smile) Got back from "work" and back down to the barn to check on the ranch hand..oops, I mean Greg. What a great idea Greg, its blowing a gale, my hair is standing on end and we are going to do WHAT !!!??? cutting up fallen trees in the creek bottom. No, my life insurance has not been raised, I dont think. Brought the horses back in, Gertie very upset but there is no room in the barn for her. Watched the heron fishing in the pond (better watch out, the county will be after him getting a permit !). Hassan, our boarders young Arab turned into a terrorist coming out of the field but he meets his match with Greg and he is happily tucked up in his stall (I hope). Oh well, its 7.20am (did we sleep last night ?) and time for another day on the ranch. Have a great day, I know we will
There are "high days and holidays", down on the ranch we don't get many holidays but yesterday was kind of a high day ! Greg took us off the ranch ..to go SHOPPING !!. By we I mean Diane and I, my friend visiting from England. Diane is disabled and has multiple medical issues so a trip out with her in tow is ALWAYS a treat ! Our morning starts as always (see web site "poo poo and more poo") and then Greg offers the ultimate blackmail...If I can be ready and spiffed up in 10 minutes I get to have a....McDonalds breakfast( now come on, how lucky am I , smile !!) Nervous wreck impending when Diane got loose in the store on a flying (motorized) wheelchair and serious damage done to Gregs credit card but all in all, we had a good day.Back to the ranch for the evening shift. Life is good. I am going to try to write a diary of a rancher, seen through my not always too technical eyes. I type with 2 fingers and a tongue and my diary may be interupted by egg washing or feeding a goat kid...let me know if you are interested, keep my enthusiasm going ! Ok, Gregs going through his second course breakfast (only gets to eat the "failed" eggs, cracked, chipped....still taste good. ) We can hear the cows,goats...everything starting to respond to their body clock, FEED ME NOW. Got to go, have a great day. M and G
